Fostering Support Worker

Fixed Term Contract for 12 months 

Excel Fostering are expanding their Support Worker team who continue to provide an excellent standard of support to carers and young people looked after by Excel Fostering’s foster carers.

Although home based, the successful candidate will be required to travel within the North West region working in partnership with social workers. You will be able to work both individually and as part of a team. You will need to be flexible to at times cover evenings and weekends. 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Visit foster carers in their own home and assist fosters  carers to access other advice and social support for children in their area
  • Carry out support plans with individual carers
  • Attend carers meetings as appropriate
  • Organise and support carers to attend social events and support groups
  • Encourage and promote training events with carers
  • Organise support and consultation groups for looked after and birth children.
  • To report safeguarding concerns to line manager
  • Accurately record work

Applicants will have:

  • Experience of working with children and young people both in groups and one to one, preferably within independent, voluntary or statutory provision
  • A qualification in child care
  • A knowledge of the circumstances and needs of children and young people in care, which may include direct experience of having been in care, would be desirable
  • You will have good organisational and time management skills, be confident and have the ability to build strong relationships with young people, key individuals and organisations
  • Essentially, you must be an excellent role model for children and young people
  • Flexibility will be needed to cover out of hours appointments both in the evening and at weekends
  • Full and current driving licence, with access to transport
