World Mental Health Day: ‘Do one thing’ campaign

9th October, 2020

2020 is not the year we were all expecting, with a pandemic gripping the world for the past eight months and is still ongoing. Reading and listening to all the news and not being able to go out and do what we want has had a massive impact on many people’s mental health.

As the colder months grow closer, you may notice your mood starting to dip, this is a normal feeling as there is less sun shining, it is natural to find yourself feeling a little under the weather due to a lack of vitamin D. This year has been a tough one for us all, the past eight months of lockdown, restrictions and loss have had a huge impact on our mental health and looking after it is more important than ever before.

Mind UK are encouraging everyone this year to make one positive change throughout your day as part of World Mental Health Day on October 10th, whether that’s going for a walk, making yourself a nice up of tea, or even running an errand for a family member or friend. Whatever you choose your one thing to be, it is important to remember that even if you only manage to complete that one thing that day, that is still an achievement. Making positive changes can be hard, especially in a middle of a pandemic, but taking small steps by doing one thing each day is a step closer to helping improve your mental health.

Mind UK’s latest research has revealed that more than 60% of adults and over two thirds of young people (68%) felt their mental health deteriorated during the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown, encouraging conversations about our own mental health and of others around us has never been more important. The ‘do one thing’ campaign has been designed to inspire and encourage ourselves and others to make our mental health a priority.
